Hilltoppers’ Perez Wins Two Titles, Girls Track Team 3rd at 3A States

The Glenbard West team placed third overall, largely on the strength of first-place finishes from Madeline Perez in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter.

Glenbard West High School cross-country star junior Madeline Perez added two more Illinois state titles to her running resume over the weekend as her first-place finishes in the 1600-meter (4:52.24) and 3200-meter (10:22.29) races provided a 20-point boost for the Hilltoppers at Saturday’s 3A girls track state meet.

According to the Suburban Life, Perez now has titles in races at (approximately) one, two and three miles, having set a state record in cross-country track in the fall of 2012 on the three-mile course.

The Hilltoppers also got points from Emma Reifel (800-meter, third, 2:12.19) and Emma Gambol (triple jump, eighth, 37-00.50), plus Reifel and Gambol together with JaSharra Clark and Mary Nevins (4x400 relay, eighth, 3:58.47.) Lisa Luczak was just one place outside scoring in the 3200-meter race (tenth, 10:51.08).
