Glenbard Weat Girls Tennis Claims Sectional Championship

Several local tennis players will be headed to state this weekend.

The Glebard West girls tennis team clinched a sectional championship this past weekend in Downers Grove, according to the Illinois High School Association website. 

The Glenbard West team scored 32 points with Glenbard South placing second and tying with Glenbard East. Glenbard East and South each scored 14 points at the sectional. 

Glenbard West's Caroline Maltby, a sophomore, placed second in the singles match-up and Ali Bush, a junior, placed third. Both will be headed to state. The doubles team of senior Drew Menzel and senior Grace Norgaard won the sectional and will be headed to state. Also headed to state for Glenbard West is doubles players senior Maggie Hughes and junior Elizabeth Ficarella who placed third at sectionals. 

Glenbard South's doubles players junior Jenna Brambora and junior Rachel Rettger placed second at sectionals and will also be headed to state. 

Glenbard East's Priscilla Palermo, a freshman singles player, won the sectional and will also be headed to state. 

The state final tournament will be held Oct. 24 through 26 at Buffalo Grove High School.
