The Geneva Vikings girls basketball team squeaked past Batavia 60-56 in a come-from-behind thriller Friday night at Geneva.

Eight fourth-quarter points by Geneva's Abby Novak held off a 9-point fourth quarter by Batavia's Liza Fruendt, who had a brilliant game and finished with 26 points for the Bulldogs.

In a fast-paced, high-scoring first quarter, Batavia sprinted to a 17-14 lead on the strength of 9 points by Fruendt and 8 by Sami Villarreal. Morgan Seberger scored 5 and Sami Pawlak 4 for the Vikings in the first quarter.

Geneva clawed back to take the lead late in the third, but another 3-pointer by Orman gave the Bulldogs a 42-41 lead at the buzzer.

Both teams traded leads to start the fourth quarter.

Fruendt scored a step-back 3-pointer that tied the game at 52 late in the fourth period, but Novak came right back with an offensive rebound and put-back, and Morgan Seberger put down two free throws. A defensive stop gave Geneva the ball and a 56-52 lead with 1:19 left.

Fruendt added two free throws with 19 seconds left to cut the lead to 58-56, but the Vikings were able to make the inbound pass and added a free throw each by Seberger and Sami Pawlak for the 60-56 final.
