About the game

The Raiders, in the final seconds last week, are hoping for a better outcome Friday as they take on Crete-Monee—their second Southland Conference opponent in as many weeks. That, however, could be a tall task.

Crete-Monee—a Sun-Times Super 25 preseason pick and ranked fifth among Class 6A teams in the AP state poll—has had its way with its first three non-conference opponents. University of Michigan recruit Standifer leads a Warrior defense that’s surrendered only seven points per contest leading up to Friday. Tracy Whitehead, a defensive back whom the Sun-Times reports ran a sub-4.40 40-yard dash at a combine this summer, could give Glenbard South speedster Sanders a run for his money if Sanders breaks free.

Terrell is new to Crete-Monee’s offense, but it hasn’t taken him long to find his groove. The junior averaged 271.5 yards passing in each of the Warriors’ first two games. Last Friday, he blitzed Moline to the tune of 439 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target thus far has been Treadwell, who caught four passes for 172 yards last week. Kidd, meanwhile, compiled over 100 all-purpose yards.

Speaking of all-purpose threats, Sanders continues to be just that for the Raiders, scoring on a 10-yard run and returning a long kickoff vs. Rich East. Padera has been steady for the Raiders, and back Carl Lane has come on of late, but Cordell wants Glenbard South to begin finding ways to close out games. The Raiders will be without Boesso until late in the season after he underwent surgery on an injured hand last week.

About the game

Glenbard West’s revenge-o-meter has reached its maximum level. Last week’s convincing triumph over Lyons Township at LT avenged a 2010 Week 9 loss to the Lions that prevented the Hilltoppers from winning the WSS title outright. During this season’s nationally televised opener, of course, Glenbard West exacted revenge on Wheaton Warrenville South, which knocked the Hilltoppers out of the playoffs last fall and beat them in the 2009 Class 7A title game.

Caspers, junior Nick Garland and the offensive line continue to give Balogh and the Hilltoppers’ stable of backs plenty of running room each week. for three touchdowns and 189 yards in his best performance of the year so far. Schutt and the Marstons, Mike and Matt, each picked off passes for the stingy Hilltoppers’ defense, which points-wise is surrendering the equivalent of just over a field goal per game.

Tarka and the Red Devils looked sharp during the first half of their West Suburban Silver opener opposite , but they allowed the Panthers to pull away in the second half with 23 unanswered points. Hinsdale Central platoons Callahan, a senior, and Owens, a junior, at quarterback, and the Red Devils have decent size up front with Callen (271 pounds), Pircon (252) and Allen (258). Allen, a sophomore, is the younger brother of Jack Allen, now at Michigan State.
