'85 Glenbard South Cheerleading Squad Inducted Into State Hall of Fame

The Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association will induct into its hall of fame this Saturday the first state champion cheerleading squad – the Glenbard South varsity basketball squad — which won state on Feb 23, 1985.

Current Glenbard East High School math teacher Lisa Behnke was the girls’ head coach, according to a press release from Glenbard Township High School District 87. 

The following girls were on the squad that won state (all maiden names): Seniors: Marla Morley, Barb Shepherd, Dana Smith and Julie Wilson; juniors: Leanne Diemer, Lisa Hastedt, Lori Mullinger; sophomores: Beth Ashley and Kris Schram and coaches Lisa Brassel and Lori Iantorno, according to the news release. 

Those planning to attend the ceremony include (maiden names in parentheses): Barb OBrien (Shepherd), Julie Varrige (Wilson), Lori Scalvo (Mullinger), Lisa Jorczak (Hastedt), Beth Volz (Ashley) and coaches Lisa Behnke (Brassel) and Lori Miko (Iantorno).

The induction will occur at the ICCA annual coaches meeting in Normal.
