Lisle High School Makes First Moves to Install Lights at Widle Field
As the District 202 Board of Education gears up to discuss installing lights at the athletic field, a teacher and alumnus stands behind the character of the District's current student body.
When the Board of Education previously entertained discussions of lights at Wilde Field, located behind , the proposal was generally met with opposition.
Residents shut down a discussion in 1989; more than 100 residents signed a petition against lights in 2000, citing traffic, noise, and potential vandalism for their opposition, according to Chicago Tribune.
Varsity football players take advantage of the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sport Complex. Wilde Field, however, still hosts Lisle High School soccer games and freshman football games, and various student activities.
Lisle High School teacher Dave Sally, who attended Lisle schools, offered this commentary to the Daily Herald last week. He asks other residents not to assume the worst of student behavior when making their decision whether to support the proposal.
The Board of Education recently approved the appointment of an advisory board to analyze the costs and needs of lights, as well as repair of the press box at the field. Members include Kathy Chatman, Sheryl Fonner, Bill Murray, Meg Sima, Amy Sohl, Joe Vitiello, Nicole Webb, and chairman Meg Sima, according to the District 202 website. Their recommendation will go to the Board later this year.
