Hadley Students Present 'Ugly Duckling' Adaptation: 'Honk!'

Students in the Hadley Junior High theatre arts program will perform "Honk!", a musical adaptation of "The Ugly Duckling" this weekend.

More than 100 Hadley Junior High School Students are about to open the curtains on Honk!, a musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Ugly Duckling—a story about tolerance and appeals to all ages.

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade performers have been at work on the play since December, according to a news release from the Hadley theatre arts program. An army of volunteers including set designers, production teams and backstage hands helped in the effort. The play features musical numbers and a "poignant" story, all backed by a profession-grade sound, lighting and staging system.

“The production has come together beautifully,” Kim Sirvatka, co-musical director of the production and professional vocal coach said in a statement. “The kids have worked so hard and have put together a dazzling show. Best of all, it’s a timeless tale that will entertain and delight kids of all ages and their parents as well.”
