From Glenbard District 87
Students and staff at all four Glenbard District 87 high schools are celebrating Live Life Well Week from Feb. 19 through 22.
Live Life Well Week seeks to inspire, raise social awareness, advance interpersonal skills and develop responsible decision-making skills.
This year’s theme is: Do Well, Choose Well, Live Life Well! Events will range from a safe driving program to a healthy eating cooking challenge.
Activities held during the week promote the themes of substance abuse prevention, respect and wise choices. Students for Students clubs at each school are involved in coordinating a variety of exciting events. Students for Students clubs are built on the philosophy of youth empowerment. The goal is to inspire and motivate young people to take ownership of decisions regarding their mental and physical health.
Operation Teen Safe Driving events are also a highlight of the week, made possible by grants from the IDOT, Ford Driving Skills for Life and Allstate.
This year, the Glenbard District 87 Wellness Committee will partner with the Family and Consumer Science department to host the a Glenbard Healthy Cooking Challenge. Following the USDA’s MyPlate nutrition guidelines, a student competition will be held to develop tasty, and healthy dishes. Judges will chose two winning recipes, and students will prepare these recipes, to be served in the school cafeteria during Live Life Well Week for all to vote on and enjoy.
Guest speaker John Morello will present "Dirt: A One Man Show about Choices, Drugs and Bullying," to students at an all-school assembly on February 20. Morello is an actor and comedian who draws from his own personal pain as he challenges others to think about how choices impact lives.
On Wednesday, GPS (Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Parenting ) will present John Morello in "Dirt" at a special performance at 7 p.m. in the Glenbard East auditorium, 1014 S Main Street, Lombard.
