A Glenbard South physics teacher was honored with an award of excellence for teaching over the weekend.
Teacher Robert Lang received the award from the Illinois State Board of Education during the Those Who Excel banquet held Oct. 20. He was one of nine finalists for the 2012-13 Illinois Teacher of the Year.
This year, the teacher of the year was awarded to Schaumburg high school teacher Brian Curtin.
Though he was not named teacher of the year, Lang will be honored again next month for his work as a teacher.
He is a winner of the Illinois Science Teacher Association and ExxonMobil’s Outstanding Teacher of Science award. He will be honored in November for his accomplishments in the field of science teaching.
Lang will be recognized at the Illinois Science Teacher Association’s annual science education conference, which will be held in Springfield.
“Lang understands the value of professional development and attends conferences and shares what he learns with his colleagues,” District 87 has said. “He mentors new teachers by making sure they are attending professional development activities, giving them feedback on their teaching and daily struggles.”
