Renowned Author Presents 'Stressed for Success: How Life Online Amplifies Challenges Teens Face'

Glenbard District 87 also will recognize youth leaders at community forum.

Glenbard District 87 will host its first Youth Leaders Community Forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Rd, Glen Ellyn. The presentation also will be held at noon Thursday at the Marquardt School District 15 Administration Center, 1860 Glen Ellyn Road in Glendale Heights.

The event will recognize youth leaders, volunteers and sponsors for their dedication and commitment to serving the youth of our communities; participants will network with other youth workers and volunteers.

Glenbard Parent Series speaker, Catherine Steiner-Adair, will present Stressed for Success:  How Life Online Amplifies Challenges Teens Face.

Steiner-Adair is an "internationally renowned clinical psychologist, school consultant and Harvard Medical School instructor," according to her website. She is the author of "The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age."

According to her website, the book "reveals how technology and the Internet are fragmenting American families, leaving parents confused and children lonely."

She has appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Discovery Channel, CNN and PBS, and she has been quoted in numerous newspapers and magazines.

In her presentations Thursday, Steinar-Adair will outline how to build healthy relationships with your teen in the age of technology and uncover the truth of the teen dating scene in an online world.

These presentations are free and open to the public.

Glenbard District 87 Superintendent David Larson and administrators are eager to acknowledge the support of local teen advocates. The Youth Leaders Community Forum will become an annual event on the Glenbard calendar.
