Students Raise Money for Emerald Ash Borer Treatment

The Village of Glen Ellyn recognizes fourth graders for raising money for the village's Emerald Ash Borer treatment program.

The Glen Ellyn Village Board last week recognized the Ben Franklin Elementary School fourth grade class for their recent fundraising campaign that raised more than $400 for the Village's Emerald Ash Borer treatment program, according to a news release from the Village of Glen Ellyn.

The fourth grade classes each participated in this effort by selling bracelets within the community, according to the release.

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a small, green insect that has killed millions of ash trees in the United States and was confirmed in Glen Ellyn in March 2009, according to the Village of Glen Ellyn website.

The village in March 2012 surveyed the ash population of 1,279 trees and found 376 infested with EAB. The infested threes were scheduled for removal.

The village has budgeted $50,000 for EAB treatments in fiscal year 2013-14 in its commitment to save its 750 parkway trees.
