District 89 Celebrates On April 15 "One Community Reading Together"

Community Consolidated School District 89 is completing an all district project on Friday, April 15 at Glen Crest Middle School, 725 Sheehan Avenue in Glen Ellyn.  The four elementary school libraries at Arbor View, Westfield, Park View and Briar Glen, have teamed with Glen Crest Middle School Library Media Center and worked on reading, researching and reacting to one author’s work chosen for the school year.  That author is Sally M. Walker, a master at writing non fiction books for different reading levels.  There will be three presentations for students in grades fourth through eighth at Glen Crest in the LMC throughout the day.
On Friday evening,  April 15, beginning at 7:00 P.M. the entire community is invited to hear a presentation by the author. At 6:00 P.M. the visitors can come to the middle school and meet the author, purchase a book and have her sign it for their family.
Walker is a prolific researcher and writer.  Each elementary school  had the opportunity of  choosing one of her books as well as one of her research subjects to highlight for an evening during the school year.  Parents, neighbors, friends were invited to the schools to take part in in “One Community Reading Together.”
Arbor View had an evening in October focusing on the book, Written in Bone: The Buried Lives of Jamestown and Colonial Maryland as well as the fiction book, Drucilla’s Halloween.  Briar Glen’s night focused on Mystery Fish, Park View did theirs in January on Secrets of a Civil War Submarine and on Friday, April 15, Walker will concentrate on her book, The Search for Antarctic Dinosaurs.
