District 87 To Award Construction Bids To Install Lights at Memorial Field

Tonight, school board members will review the bids.

Glenbard Township High School District 87 school board members will review the construction bids for the installation of two 60-foot and four 70-foot light poles at Memorial Field, the turf practice grounds across from  during Monday's meeting.

Superintendent Michael Meissen recommends awarding the $220,395 base bid to Thorne Electric, Inc of Wheaton. According to the bid, Thorne Electric construction will be substantially complete 11 days after the desired Aug. 17 date. In a memo provided to the district by Legat Architects, the firm recommends awarding the bid to Thorne, the lowest bidder, despite the late substantially complete finish. In the memo, Legat Architects state the later date will "not pose any significant issues." However, if the board is concerned with the timing, the firm states members could award the bid to the second-lowest bidder, Utility Dynamics for $247,750, which is still under the $300,000 budget.

The total cost of construction will total $250,705., which includes design fees, contigency and ComEd service fee, according to District 87 documents.
