District 87 Proposes iPads for All Freshmen by 2014

The Glenbard High School District 87 school board is expected to vote in coming weeks on a proposal that would require all incoming freshmen to use an iPad — instead of textbooks and novels — by 2014, according to the Daily Herald.

The cost to rent an iPad under the new program is estimated to be $275 per student per year while the current cost to rent textbooks, workbooks and novels is $195, according to the article. The Daily Herald reports the decision to switch to iPads was made after the district tested out pilot programs at its four high schools over the past two years.
