District 87 Board Appoints New Glenbard South Principal

Glenbard South High School will have a new principal in the next school year. The District 87 Board of Education approved the appointment of Sandra Coughlin as the school’s new principal.

Her appointment takes effect on July 1, when current principal Terri Hanrahan moves to the District 87 administration office as a Teaching and Learning Coordinator and a Title I Facilitator, according to the district.

Coughlin has worked in District 87 since 1996, and since 2011 has served as the assistant principal of instruction at Glenbard East High School. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Southern Illinois University and earned her administrative leadership certification from North Central College, according to the school district.

“I am extremely proud to have served the Glenbard District for 17 years.  My experiences in various roles have prepared me to be the next principal at Glenbard South,” Coughlin said in a news release. “South has an excellent academic reputation with dedicated students and staff, and I look forward to building upon that standard of excellence through leadership and communication.  Getting to know the students, staff, families and community members will be one of my first priorities.”

Over the years Coughlin has proven to be a strong leader, successful in her various roles at the district and she is also knowledgeable about the district, Glenbard District 87 Superintendent David Larson said.

“I am confident that Sandy’s experience, exceptional leadership skills and passion will build upon the excellent foundation at South,” Larson said.
