District 41 Sets January Think Tank Meetings

The school district has scheduled an afternoon and evening meeting for parents to learn more about the proposed Think Tank initiative.

School is back in session and that means the discussion over the District 41 Think Tank resumes.

In January, the district has scheduled two more informational sessions for parents to learn more about the Think Tank and offer feedback.

District 41 is planning to hold the sessions on Jan. 16 and Jan. 23. The meetings will be held at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.

While a number of parents and educators in the district are in favor of the district making changes in the 2013-14 school year, a large number of parents have raised concern that the district is moving too quickly to implement changes in the next school year.

The Think Tank was convened about 18 months ago and is comprised mostly of teachers and some parents. The goal of the group was to determine ways the district might better address 21st Century Learning and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education.

A number of recommendations have been made, including changes to classrooms and grouping of students.

Several meetings have already been held to inform parents of the proposed changes and to gather feedback. District 41 has said additional meetings will be held at individual schools and that school principals will be sharing meeting information with parents.

The upcoming meetings will be held Jan. 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and again on Jan. 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Glen Ellyn Public Library in the meeting rooms to the left as you enter the library.

In addition, babysitting will be available during both sessions, though services will not be available for infants or children who are not potty trained. Parents planning to use the babysitting service are asked to contact Julie Worthen
