Community Invited to Raider Stadium Project Celebration Friday

A ribbon cutting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday night at Glenbard South.

The grass is always going to be greener at now that new artificial turf is installed on the football stadium’s field.

To celebrate the Raider Stadium project, is holding a special ribbon cutting ceremony and the entire community is invited to attend.

The Raider stadium project was a cooperative effort of the Glenbard South Boosters, Glenbard District 87 and an anonymous donor, the district said. 

The ribbon cutting and special season opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. or following the sophomore football game Aug. 31 at Glenbard South. The Raiders will take on Bloom Township High School.

According to District 87 some of the benefits of using the artificial turf include:

  • Physical education use: The physical education department can use the stadium as a daily outdoor classroom.
  • Athletic event use: In the past, Glenbard South’s stadium field was used approximately 31 times per year for practices and competitions. The artificial turf allows increased use of the field.
  • Partnership: The partnership between Glenbard South Boosters and Glenbard South will improve academic and co-curricular programs at Glenbard South.
  • Increased outdoor practice facilities: Practice will be able to occur on the stadium field on a daily basis. South’s marching band also will be able to use the field for practices.
  • Durability:  Artificial turf can be played on in all weather conditions and requires less maintenance.
