April Home Sales: Glen Ellyn Sales Slip; Prices Show Moderate Increase

Year-over-year, Glen Ellyn saw a slight decline in the number of homes sold during the month of April. The median home price increased slightly, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

The 32 single, detached homes sold in Glen Ellyn during April 2013 represented a -3 percent decline over April 2012, when 33 homes were sold, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe).

There were 32 homes sold in Glen Ellyn during March. 

While the number of homes sold slightly decreased in Glen Ellyn, the median home price showed moderate gains in April. The median price increased 9.6 percent to $342,576 from $312,500 in April 2012.

Sales of single-family, detached homes in suburban Chicago increased 33.2 percent in April 2013 compared with the same period a year ago, MORe reported. Sales in DuPage County, were notable, as well. The median sale price for detached homes also increased 5.5 percent from the previous April. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data.

Glen Ellyn wasn’t the only community to experience a decline. Burr Ridge was the only other Patch community in DuPage County to experience declines in home sales during April.

Lisle had the biggest percentage increase, with 150 percent more homes sold year over year. In April 2013, 15 homes sold compared with 6 sold in April 2012. Though, the median home price did drop slightly among homes sold.

“Word about the activity in the market is getting around,” said Tonya Corder, president of MORe and managing broker of Keller Williams Preferred Realty in Orland Park. “I think people who had been sitting on the sidelines are starting to realize that the market is accelerating. With today’s low interest rates and affordable home prices, if you are a buyer, your opportunity is now.”
