Village Officials Expected to Attend County Hearing Regarding COD Expansion

COD attorneys are trying to keep village officials from testifying during county zoning hearings. Today's court hearing was continued, and village officials might testify at tonight's county zoning hearing.

Village of Glen Ellyn officials can continue to voice their opinions at county hearings, or at least for now.

Today the two parties met before Judge Hollis Webster after College of DuPage attorneys last week asking Webster to "enforce" the mediation agreement in which the village passed regulatory control of the campus on to the county. Since relinquishing the right to regulate the community college, COD attorneys believe village officials' testimony violates the "spirit" of the agreement, and would like village officials to remain silent during these hearings. Webster did not render a decision Monday but will meet with the two parties again on Wednesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. to further discuss the issue.

In court Monday, COD attorney Steve Ruffalo told Webster the college is looking to further clarify the expectations of the previous agreement. Ruffalo said the group representing the college is "Hoping to sit and talk with [Webster] for about 10 minutes to discuss where we've been and where we're going."

Village of Glen Ellyn officials are expected to attend tonight's DuPage County zoning board of appeals meeting where the College of DuPage is seeking approval for its long-term expansion plan. Staci Hulseberg, village of Glen Ellyn planning and development director, is expected to attend and may testify at the meeting depending on what college officials submitted in their . After many residents spoke out against the proposed development, COD removed .

In the plan submitted to DuPage County, COD was seeking to add roughly 734,000 square feet of new buildings. At the first ZBA meeting many residents spoke out against the proposed development, which did not indicate the use of many buildings. Residents were also concerned about the proximity of new buildings to their dwellings along with flooding and traffic concerns. Officials working on the long-term expansion plan said currently there is no funding to pay for these projects and it's possible some may never be completed.
