Village Moves Toward Increasing Tax Levy

The village is considering an increase of 1.5 percent.

Residents would only see a slight increase in taxes if the increases the 2011 property tax levy.

Interim Finance Director Larry Noller noted that same homeowner currently pays $709 a year on just village taxes, which excludes other taxing bodies like the school districts. If trustees approve the new levy the same homeowner would pay $720 per year.

Noller said the increase is needed since the village's obligations to pensions will increase along with general expenses. Monday night's discussion was one of a few meetings to come. Next the village will hold a public hearing on on Monday, Nov. 14.
