Village Launches New Survey Corner Website

New Survey Corner portion of village website shows high level of input from residents on a variety of issues.

The latest issue of the Glen Ellyn Newsletter let residents know about a new addition to the village website called the Survey Corner. The Survey Corner allows Glen Ellyn residents to express their opinions on local issues, and gives the village board essential information about residents' concerns that help the board make policy decisions.

"The village board wanted to roll out this aspect of the website to the public to help give them information about resident's feelings on a variety of issues. It's a great way for them to reach out to the community," said Kristen Schrader, assistant to the village manager-administration. "It gives the board another fact-finding way to help make decisions."

Since the first survey question was posted in June about residents' usage of the Hill Avenue Bridge, officials say participation has been high and the community has actively been using the new resource.

"We wanted to know how important using the bridge was to residents and try and keep it open," Schrader said.

According to Schrader, based on the survey's results, the village is working with the Village of Lombard to keep the bridge open for residents to continue to use. Based on the responses received through the survey, more than 53 percent of residents said they would be affected by a closure of the Hill Avenue Bridge. According to Village Manager Steve Jones, the village is still in discussions with Lombard about the bridge and that the topic is set to be included in the agenda for Monday's board meeting.

In July, the village posted another question regarding the leaf collection program. The survey found that an overwhelming 73.8 percent of residents use the village sticker program for the removal of their leaves. The survey also found that 73 percent of residents used more than 11 bags per year on average.

The village recently closed the most recent survey regarding televising the Village Board workshops and said the results would be posted in the Survey Corner portion of the website soon.

At the moment, the village has  no plans to expand the Survey Corner portion of the site. According to Schrader, survey questions will be posted as needed depending on issues that the village manager and village president feel need more input from the public. At the moment, the village has not yet identified its next survey question.

"We're giving a little time now so that residents don't feel overwhelmed by the survey questions," Schrader said.
