Tonight: Special Meeting on Memorial Lights Issue

The plan commission will continue to listen to testimony at tonight's special plan commission meeting.

Residents against the installation of lights will continue to present their case at tonight's special plan commission meeting. 

During the last meeting, Jim Ozog, attorney and resident representing Our Field Our Town, said Memorial Field could be interpreted as a "sport court," according to Glen Ellyn's zoning code. And, if a court agrees with him, that means the way the field is currently designed is in violation of that code. 

Patch previously reported: According to an Illinois state statute, residents living within 1,200 feet of the building or structure in question, in this case  Memorial Field, could file a lawsuit if they can show their properties would be “substantially affected by the alleged violation.”

With this finding, the group is hoping to now leverage its position with the school district. Ozog said his group is not threatening the district but he hopes they can reach a "resolution."

wants to install light towers at Memorial Field to allow for extended use. First they need approval from the village board of trustees. Before the trustees vote on the issue, the plan commissioners will listen to testimony from experts, residents, and school district officials. The commissioners will then formulate a recommendation and pass that on to village board trustees. It's unclear at this time when the trustees will get a chance to vote.
