Tonight: Round Two for Memorial Field Lights Debate at Plan Commission

Tonight Plan Commissioners will listen to more evidence for and against the proposal for lights at Glenbard West's Memorial Field.

Tonight plan commissioners will listen as those in opposition of the lights cross-examine witnesses who testified in support of the lights during the .

Glenbard High School District 87 wants to install lights at Memorial Field but in order to do so district officials need approval from the village of Glen Ellyn. To get that stamp of approval, the district first needs the go ahead light from the plan commissioners.

After listening to the arguments for and against the installation of lights, the commissioners will make a recommendation to send to the village board of trustees.

Tonight is the second plan commission meeting, which is one step closer to reaching that final decision.

At the first plan commission meeting regarding the lights, commissioners listened to a and experts in lighting and real estate. They touted the benefits of lights citing an increased usage for the field, which would benefit athletes, and taxpayers since athletes would need less transportation to other practice locations. A real estate expert also stated that the installation of lights would not decrease the property value of homes in the nearby area, a concern for many residents. 

Tonight the opposition, mainly members of Our Field Our Town, will get to cross-examine these experts and district officials.
