Park Board Approves Lake Ellyn Master Plan, Sets Stage for Funding Search

The Lake Ellyn Master Plan calls for $6 million to $12 million in recommended improvements.

The Glen Ellyn Park District has the go ahead to begin moving forward to find funding to undertake improvements to Lake Ellyn Park and the boathouse.

The Lake Ellyn Park Master Plan was approved Tuesday in a 6-1 vote from the Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners, according to a story in the Daily Herald.

Last year several public meetings were held to gain input from residents in regard to the type of changes that were acceptable and warranted. The Glen Ellyn Park District also met with community groups and sent out surveys to park neighbors to gather feedback.

In December, the Master Plan was unveiled to residents. The plan was the culmination of the work of the consultants and the suggestions from community members.

The plan was created to “polish the gem” that is the considered the Jewel of Glen Ellyn, Dave Harris, Glen Ellyn Park District director has said. The park district wants to create a template to take the park to the next 100 years.

The plan includes $6 million to $12 million in recommended improvements, which were prioritized, according to the Herald story. So far, $150,000 is budgeted for upgrades to the park in the next year. The story said some residents wanted the plan scaled back.

Additional meetings and discussions are planned as the park district moves forward, the Herald said.
