Memorial Field Lighting Set to be Tested Next Week

The Memorial Field lighting needs to be tested to ensure it is compliant with village code.

Testing of a new lighting system at Memorial Field is expected to take place one evening next week.

The announced in its newsletter that anticipated testing would take place sometime during the week of Aug. 13. No date was specified.

In January, the village board voted unanimously to approve the use of lighting at Memorial Field, Glen Ellyn Patch reported. The request to install lights on the field at the school's campus, which is in the heart of downtown Glen Ellyn, had been a contentious issue for nearly a year and at the time some said the issue divided the town.

The testing of the lighting system is necessary to verify the foot-candle output of the system and to insure it is in accordance with the plans and village ordinance, according to the Village of Glen Ellyn.

Residents should expect the testing to continue after the 9 p.m. shut off time enacted in the ordinance, the village said. In order to accurately test the system, it must be done with sufficient darkness, which will push testing past 9 p.m.

Testing of the lighting system should take about an hour and a half and should only take one evening to complete, the village said. If the testing is not completed the first time, it is expected that it will only require one additional evening during the same week.
