Letter to the Editor: Memorial Lights Opponent Resigns from Zoning Board

Mary Ozog was appointed in 2005 and is now stepping down from her post.

Editor's note: Mary Ozog submitted the following memo to Patch, via email, to be used as a letter to the editor.

Dear President Pefferman and Zoning Board Chairman Garrity:

I am tendering my resignation on the Zoning Board, effective immediately after tonight's meeting.

I am finding that my duties on the District 87 Board are substantial; this is my fourth evening meeting in a row this week.

On top of my other responsibilities, I also want to state that for the past 7 years I have been happy to facilitate the requests of homeowners seeking to improve their properties, but I am no longer willing to serve when we appear in this Village to have one standard of zoning that homeowners must follow, but a different standard when a public entity wishes to improve a property. My objections to lights at Memorial Field are well known, and as a neighbor I have attested to, in public hearings before both the Village Board and the Plan Commission, the change in the essential character of the neighborhood wrought by the new, much intensified use for Memorial Field. To add lights to this field is against the zoning code, and against the essential principle that variances to the zoning code show both a hardship and that the essential character of the surrounding neighborhood will not be impacted by said improvements.

I wish you, the Village, and my fellow Zoning members the best in your future efforts.

Sincerely,
Mary F. Ozog
