Letter: Chris Nybo Asks Supporters to Welcome Dillard

The following is a letter to the editor from Chris Nybo following his defeat for State Senate District 24.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Senator Kirk Dillard in his victory this past Tuesday. On account of redistricting, we all faced difficult decisions and very unfortunate contests. While the race was spirited, it has been decided by the voters and they have decided on Senator Dillard.

I welcome him into the new communities that I represent and ask that all of the people who supported me, welcome him as enthusiastically as I am. It's time to make sure that our party brings a unified voice to Springfield to accomplish the serious business of getting our state back on track. I believe Senator Dillard will be a leader in that effort as my new State Senator.

Sincerely,

Chris Nybo

Candidate for State Senate District 24

This letter is evidence of what I knew all along that Representative Chris Nybo is a very classy man. I met him some time ago and continue to be impressed with his work ethic and communication with his constituents. I am confident we will see this very intelligent and hard-working man again in the public service arena. Thank you for a spirited campaign and thank you for your service to our community. Chris Nybo is a person of honor. In keeping with his request to support our new senator, let me be the first to say on this comment string, congratulations to Senator Dillard.

Well said by both Chris and Kevin yesterday. It is time to bury all the hatchets and move on to better things. Chris has great potential and a whole life ahead of him and that’s a great place to be. Peace and good will to all!

Its a pile of crap based on his negative campaign and things he said about Dillard just to get elected. Reminds me of a kid forced to say something nice to avoid punishment. It is phoney and shouldnt be believed. If he didnt like Dillard before the vote, he should stick to his position that he is not the best option. Illinois is in the worst shape out of all the states in the country and we need more than inexperienced law firm political aspiring punks like Nybo to try and salvage a state that is plunging headlong into permanent decline. NO illinois politicians should ever be reelected, including Nybo. Wake up people.

Sorry Ken. Once you deliver the decision to the voters, you let them decide what direction they decide to go. Then you honor that decision. There is a lot of acrimony in a political race as you try to illustrate differences between you and your opponent. These two candidates were friendly with one another before this race. There are a great number of attributes they admire about one another. Redistricting forced this process of musical chairs. There are plenty of people who will not support the person they lost to in a primary. Graciousness in victory and loss are equally important. Kirk won. There are plenty of very strong reasons to support him and our entire organization does support him now and will help him going forward. I take great offense to you calling anyone a political aspiring punk. But an attitude like yours that criticizes a gentleman congratulating another gentleman needs no response.

Classy move by Nybo. Good for him.

Anyone can be classy in defeat. How many people are classy in a campaign? Nybo ran a destructive negative campaign with accusations built upon other accusations designed to build distrust in our elected officials. There are good elected officials and when you run against someone in your own party you should have the class to campaign as a gentleman. The Republicans don't need nybo

sorry Kevin if I disagree, especially since you are a political cronie
kkenny@gmail.com March 23, 2012 at 05:26 pm
agree DV, there are plenty of major issues in Illinois that needed focus vs. negative campaign. Nybo has zero expereince solving real issues. All Illinois politicians should resign for the sad state of our state.

well said Ken
unfortunately the same neg bashing at the Federal campaign level is hurting the republican party too. Sorry leadership across the board from local to state to Fed

TIME TO KISS AND MAKE UP BOYZ.
Kevin Fitzpatrick March 25, 2012 at 05:02 pm
Sp. "Crony". You can neither spell the word, nor do you understand it's meaning. I worked very hard for Chris because he's an outstanding young legislator who voted in the absolute interest of his district every time kenny. I'd do it again. I am supporting Senator Dillard along with everyone else in our organization. That's no small commitment. And to the person who said it's easy to be "gracious in defeat" Look around friend, it's not easy at all. It is however, very honorable.
Kevin Fitzpatrick March 25, 2012 at 05:03 pm
Milton PD, i.e. follow the examples of Representative Chris Nybo and Senator Dillard.

"Political aspiring punk" is certainly not a phrase I would use to describe Representative Nybo. In my experience, he has always been a smart, kind person and a great legislator. Being a good legislator means listening to your constituents, and that is exactly what the Nybo team did on election night. We listened to the voters, and the voters chose Senator Dillard. Supporting your opponent after a primary is not an 'about face', as long as you are supporting who your constituents chose.

Nybo was a gracious loser and Dilliard is the winner. Why all the negative vibes about Chris, he has served elmhurst well as former alderman and now rep. Let it go gentlemen.

You mean 1/2 term Alderman Nybo....I've lived in the 5th Ward for 40 years and seen many Alderman come and go ( all of them served a full term) all of them were more effective then Chris Nybo. And now our Mayor wants to spit his time between us and the county.
Kevin Fitzpatrick June 12, 2012 at 04:13 pm
Not so sunnysider, He served all but 3 months of his 4 year term and was sworn in to serve as State Rep. He continued serving the same constituents (of the 5th Ward) and many more from Riverside on the east to Lombard on the west; approx. 110K people. You can criticize based on facts, but 1/2 term is a huge exaggeration. Be critical if you'd like, but be fair.
