Glen Ellyn Trustee Resigns from Village Board

Robert Friedberg has accepted a professional opportunity out of state.

Glen Ellyn Trustee Robert Friedberg announced his resignation from the Village Board effective immediately. He has accepted a professional opportunity out of state that will begin in early January.  

Friedberg has been serving as executive vice president of Cadence Health and president of Delnor Hospital. According to CadenceHealth.org, he joined the organization in 2004, and has held a number of senior leadership roles at Central DuPage and Delnor hospitals, most recently serving as chief operating officer of Delnor and executive vice president of system operations and integrated services for the health system.

"Trustee Friedberg has been an integral member of the Village Board since his election in 2011," the statement reads. "He has been involved in many important Glen Ellyn developments and initiatives, including the upcoming opening of the high-end grocery store, The Fresh Market, the creation of the village’s resident cost-saving municipal electric aggregation program, the development of a 10-year capital improvement plan and critical infrastructure projects such as the Hawthorne Road reconstruction and the Village Links Clubhouse renovation projects."

Friedberg said it will be difficult to step down from his post, and to leave Glen Ellyn.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to reside in Glen Ellyn for the past 20 years, serving my fellow residents for the past three years," he said.

Village President Alex Demos will appoint someone to the position within 60 days, and the Village Board will consider that appointment at a board meeting in early 2014.  If the individual is approved by the Village Board, the appointment will remain in effect through Friedberg’s original term, which ends in May 2015.
