Glen Ellyn: Get Ready to Pay More for Trash Pickup
Rates are increasing by 1.5 percent, but the biggest hit may come from a huge drop in the recycling rebate, and a proposed brush-pickup increase.
Glen Ellyn residents will be paying a bit more for trash pickup starting in August, with base rates for pickup increasing 1.5 percent (to between $11.60 and $25.40 per month) while recycling rebates drop by 72 percent, from $2.15 to 60 cents, the Chicago Tribune reports.
According to the paper, the Village has also proposed an up-to-80-cent increase in supplementary brush pickup rates, currently $1.75 per month. Trustees said the increase might be necessary due to storm cleanup having put a strain on the Village’s solid-waste fund, with storm cleanup costing $285,000 over the past nine years, the paper said.
"We incurred quite a bit of expense related to removing brush in the community," the paper quoted Finance Director Kevin Wachtel saying at a Board of Trustees meeting. "We have no idea if [the brush-pickup increase] will happen, but we're seeing our storm events are becoming more costly as time goes on.”
