District 87 Announces Board Candidates, Ballot Order

The District 87 Board of Education race in April will have six candidates vying for four seats.

Three members of the Glenbard District 87 Board of Education, whose terms are set to end, are among six candidates vying for seats on board.

The candidate filing period for the board of education election ended on Dec. 26 and the election will be held April 9. The District 87 election will fill four seats.

The terms for Board President Richard Heim, board members Robert Friend, Yadav Nathwani and F. Thomas Voltaggio end in April, according to the district. Of the four, Heim, Friend and Voltaggio are seeking to retain their seats.

According to the district, Heim, is a Lombard resident, president of Advocate South Suburban Hospital and was first elected to the board in 2009; Friend is also a resident of Lombard, first elected to the board in 2009 and he is a retired power mechanic with UPS; and, Voltaggio is a Glen Ellyn resident who served on the board from 1991 to 2003 and was elected to the board again in 2005, serving uninterrupted since that time.

In addition to the current members seeking re-election, District 87 said the three other candidates are Anthony Schullo, Judith Weinstock and Jennifer Jendras.

According to the district, three candidates filed at the same time on the first day of filing, so a lottery was held Jan. 2 to determine placement on the ballot. The district said the ballot order will be as follows:

  • Robert Friend
  • Anthony Schullo
  • Judith Weinstock
  • Jennifer Jendras
  • Richard Heim
  • F. Thomas Voltaggio
