Needy Children Shop With Cops For Christmas

Officers from all over DuPage County volunteered their time Saturday to make the holidays extra special for these local kids.

Police officers from all around DuPage County met at on Saturday to go shopping. 

Each officer was paired with a needy children from the area and they made their way to Meijer in Bloomingdale for a shopping spree.

Before heading out to Meijer, the group enjoyed a warm breakfast provided by Glen Ellyn's and . The participants even snuck in a few pick-up basketball games and other activities while at the facility.

Ron Aubrey, Glen Ellyn Park District commissioner, helps to organize the event each year with his wife. The two helped raise funds through their Make a Memory Foundation, which provides each child with a $125 gift certificate. 

Aubrey said so many people wanted to help this year that he had to turn some people away. Through many donations, his group was able to invite about 100 children to this year's event.
