Utility Pole Catches Fire and Causes Power Outage in Glen Ellyn

The incident is considered "very minor," according to Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department Spokesperson Craig Eldridge.

5:30 p.m. update: Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said the power has been restored to Glen Ellyn customers.

17 customers are currently out of power in Glen Ellyn, according to power company Commonwealth Edison. 

The outage occurred around 12:30 p.m. today when a utility pole in the 500 block of N. Park Boulevard caught fire, according to Craig Eldridge, Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson. ComEd was first to the scene, put out the fire and disconnected power. Eldridge said the three power lines "came down" but didn't hit the ground. The cause of the fire is unknown and no injuries were reported. Eldridge said the incident was "very minor."

A ComEd spokesperson said crews are on the scene working to get the customers back on line as soon as possible. 

Patch original received a tip from a Twitter that some businesses in Glen Ellyn's Central Business District were out of power. Patch spoke with a employee who reported the establishment was out of power earlier but was currently back on line.
