Two Charged in Drug-Induced Homicide

A DuPage County Judge on Tuesday set the bond for two individuals charged with drug-induced homicide for the September 2013 death of Christopher Houdek, 21, of Carol Stream, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney press release.

Ricardo Bryant, 31, of Chicago, and Adrianna Diana, 21 of Carol Stream, have each been charged with one count of Drug Induced Homicide, a Class X Felony.

Bryant appeared in bond court Tuesday morning where Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bond at $2 million with 10 percent to apply. If Bryant raises the necessary amount to secure his release, he will first have to appear for a bail hearing to determine whether any of the money from his bond was the result of illegal activity, according to the news release.

Diana appeared in Bond Court this afternoon where Judge Jeff Mckay set bond at $100,000 with 10 percent to apply.

On Sept. 27, 2013, police responded to a 911 call at Diana’s home. Upon arrival, police discovered Houdek unconscious at the residence.

Houdek was transported to an area hospital where he later died from what authorities later learned to be a heroin overdose.

Prosecutors said Diana made arrangements with Houdek on Sept. 27 to meet him in the parking lot outside her home for the purpose of supplying him with heroin, according to the news release.

Prior to meeting with Houdek, prosecutors said Diana met with Bryant and received the heroin she supplied to Houdek from Bryan. When Diana met Houdek in the parking lot, the two went into Diana’s home where Houdek used the drug before losing consciousness, according to the news release.

Following a four-month-long investigation, Bryant was taken into custody Monday afternoon, while Diana turned herself in to authorities Tuesday morning.

“Christopher Houdek was one of 46 people who died of a heroin overdose in DuPage County last year,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in the news release. “That averages out to nearly one heroin overdose death per week. These senseless deaths have got to stop. We have got to get the word out that heroin is an indiscriminate killer and your chances of survival diminish with each use.

In addition to the Drug Induced Homicide Charge, Bryant and Diana are also charged with one count of Criminal Drug Conspiracy, a Class 1 Felony. The next court date for both Bryant and Diana is scheduled for March 10.
