Tuesday's Glen Ellyn House Fire Causes Millions In Damages

No one was injured during the fire and it's unclear what started the blaze.

Between structural damage and the loss of contents, Tuesday's house fire in unincorporated Glen Ellyn is expected to be a multi-million dollar loss, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were called to the 1S400 block of Sunnybrook Road around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday after a neighbor called to report the fire. No one was home when the fire started and no injuries were reported after yesterday's blaze, which destroyed most of the second floor and back portion of the home, said fire officials.

Although the fire was mostly contained to the second floor, Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department Spokesperson Craig Eldridge said firefighters doused the home with water to exintguish the fire, resulting in damages to other areas of the home. Eldridge could not provide an exact figure for the expected loss, but said the department rarely sees a fire that causes multi-million dollars in damage.
