Police Say String of Car Break-ins Related

Glen Ellyn Police are investigating a string of car break-ins on Oct. 9 as related, but have no leads at this time.

The Glen Ellyn Police Department said Thursday that it is investigating a string of car break-ins that occurred on Oct. 9 as related.

"Logically speaking, we would consider these brake-ins to be related," Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said.

The car break-ins all occurred on Oct. 9 between 12:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., police reports state. The thefts included miscellaneous items taken from the cars, but police would not comment on specific items taken. The department said it is making calls to find out exactly what was taken from the vehicles and trying to track down the items.

"If we find the items that were stolen, we'll work the case backwards from there," Holmer said.

The majority of the 10 total thefts occurred on the 200 and 300 block of Cumnor Avenue and the 500 block of Coolidge Avenue. A total of 3 break-ins occurred in the morning of Oct. 9ths on Cumnor Avenue between 12:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. with an additional four break-ins occurring between 1 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on Coolidge Avenue. Additional break-ins occurred on the 900 block of Oxford Road, the 200 block of Woodstock Avenue and the 100 block of south Park Blvd.

Holmer said the department currently has no leads and no suspects in the case.

"Honestly, they are very difficult to investigate because there is often very little evidence," Holmer said.

The department recommends keeping your car doors locked and not leaving items of value in your car overnight.
