A man fled police Tuesday evening, speeding down Elgin streets and running stop signs and traffic lights before causing a crash authorities said killed a man and critically injured a 35-year-old woman, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Around 5 p.m., Elgin police pulled over the man, who was wanted on a state parole violation for a previous evading arrest conviction, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Stephen Luellen sped away from police, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Liberty Street and broadsided the vehicle, which rolled into an Elgin home, according to CBS Chicago.
Police said they were not chasing the fugitive when the crash occurred, according to ABC7 Chicago.
A female passenger in Luellen's car was taken to Sherman Hospital in critical condition while Luellen was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Daily Herald.
