UPDATE: Willow Lakes Apartments in Glen Ellyn Uninhabitable After Overnight Fire

Everyone in the 12-unit building was evacuated.

UPDATE OCT. 26, 2:30 p.m.: The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department has released more information about the fire that broke out at in unincorporated Glen Ellyn last night.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 24-unit Willow Lakes Apartments at 1:52 a.m. Saturday. By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had already penetrated the roof, and the alarm was upgraded.

Crews from 14 surrounding fire departments assisted the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company. Firefighting efforts were hampered by a lack of water pressure, according to the press release.

The building contained 24 units, 12 of which were destroyed by the fire. All 24 are uninhabitable, as all utilities were cut to the building. Some residents were allowed to enter the side of the building without fire damage to gather belongings.

The fire is under investigation by the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force. No cause has been identified at this time.

The American Red Cross was on the scene to assist in relocating residents to temporary shelter.

EARLIER: An overnight fire in an apartment complex on Lynn Road near North Avenue in unincorporated Glen Ellyn left six families without a home, according to ABC7.

No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the top floor of the 12-unit building, WGN is reporting. The roof of the building collapsed.

In the embedded video by WGN News, a firefighter said the area is served by well water, and that complicated efforts to put the fire out.

There is no word on what might have caused the fire.
