OMG PD: X-Mas T-Rex MIA, Heartbreak Hotel

GENEVA

• Someone stole a two-foot-tall T-Rex ornament with lights, wearing a Santa hat and holding a Christmas gift from the front yard of a residence in the 800 block of Western Avenue sometime between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12, reports said. The T-Rex was valued at $70.

• Someone cut two strings of Christmas lights sometime between 8 p.m. Dec. 9 and 7 p.m. Dec. 10, reports said. The lights were hanging on an evergreen on the north side of a residence in the 400 block of Prairieview Drive and had a value of $25, reports said.

• Someone took a gingerbread house Christmas decoration from the front yard of a home in the 0-100 block of South First Street sometime between 8 p.m. Nov. 24 and 8 a.m. Nov. 25, reports said. The gingerbread house was secured to a tree in the front yard by using bungee cords, which had been cut by an unknown object, reports said. Two gingerbread men displayed along with the house “were undisturbed,” reports said.

Steals on Wheels

• Police said a purse left inside an unlocked vehicle in the 200 block of Hill Drive was stolen sometime between 12:15 a.m. and 12:52 p.m. Dec. 19. The purse was stolen while the car was parked in a driveway. Contents of the purse were not disclosed in the report.

• A Glenbard West student reported on Dec. 18 that while on a school bus an iPod was stolen from a backpack. The report was made at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd., and occurred between 7:20 and 7:40 a.m. The iPod was valued at less than $500.

BATAVIA

Where Have You Been?

A father reported at 9:36 p.m. Dec. 14 that his son had driven to the Arlington Heights area at 3 p.m., had not returned home and might be lost. An attempt to locate was put out to Chicago and District Two State police. At 11 p.m., the son was entered into the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System. The son finally returned home, and the system entry was canceled.

Heartbreak Hotel

A verbal dispute between a female and her boyfriend was reported at 7:17 p.m. Dec. 14 on the 400 block of Franklin Street. The boyfriend refused to leave the residence at first, but eventually agreed to leave and stay in a hotel for the evening.

NAPERVILLE

Police charged Kevin Francis Guy, 21, of the 200 block of Douglas Avenue, with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a muffler. He was stopped on Dec. 23 at the corner of Eagle Street and Ogden Avenue, police said.

ST. CHARLES

Uhmmm ... I Think I'm in The Wrong Car

An Oak Park woman’s visit to St. Charles could have ended worse.

Sarah C. Guse, 18, of the 900 block of North Boulevard, Oak Park, was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol and resisting a peace officer. The incident began Saturday, Dec. 22, with a report of an auto theft in progress.

A 47-year-old resident of the first block of North 12th Street called police about 4:01 a.m. to report his Cadillac Escalade was being stolen. The owner told police he and his family were ready to leave for a trip and had parked the vehicle in the alley next to their home. He said he left the engine running to warm it up. As he came outside, someone was driving off with the vehicle.

Officers who arrived at the home were advised by dispatchers that the owner had called back, saying the vehicle had just driven past his home. Officers found the vehicle parked on Brook Street, and Guse was getting out of the Escalade.

When confronted, Guse explained to the officer that she had been at a friend’s house in the area and at one point realized she did not have her cellphone. Her friend told her to take his car to go find it. So she left his home and got into the Escalade, which she assumed was her friend’s, and left.

But Guse had second thoughts about whether she had taken the right vehicle, she told the officer. She used a cellphone on the seat of the vehicle to call another friend, who told her she had the wrong car. So Guse headed back to return it.

As the officer was questioning Guse, the vehicle’s owner showed up and the officer instructed Guse to get into the back of the squad car. She resisted, prompting the officer to arrest and handcuff her and get her into the back of the squad. Police said the woman was drinking earlier in the evening.

The vehicle was not damaged at all and police declined to pursue car theft charges against Guse. The owner told officers he simply was grateful to get his vehicle back without any damage.

Guse, however, still faces a court appearance on the underage drinking and resisting a peace officer charges. She posted $150 cash bond and was released pending a Jan. 17, 2013, court appearance.
