OMG PD: Taking on the World, Garbage-Throwing Fight, Missing Goose and More

DOWNERS GROVE

A man started making “abnormal” statements in the lobby of Red Roof Inn, 1100 Butterfield Rd., around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 8, police said. Hotel staff told police the man said he wanted to “extinguish the world.” A guest reported the man was scaring people, police said. The man denied making the statements when police questioned him in his hotel room but claimed all government agencies were “in on it.” Police said the man, though talking irrationally, was not a harm to himself or other hotel guests. No charges were filed. 

It is not known if the man had to get extra rooms for the government agents.

La GRANGE

Adult to Child: ‘You Started It’

La Grange police were called Aug 13 to the 800 block of La Grange Road after a woman complained that her neighbor had thrown trash on her lawn. The woman said her daughter witnessed the neighbor doing it. The man admitted to police that he had thrown the garbage on their lawn, but said that his neighbor’s children originally threw it there.

Both neighbors were told to put their garbage in their own bins from now on, and warned that they faced possible violations if it occurs in the future.

Patch suggests that the police issue a time out.

ELMHURST

A woman told police that while she was unlocking the door to her home on the 600 block of Berkley at 8:31 p.m. Aug. 13, something like a BB or a pellet hit her in her buttocks. She told police she saw two or three teen boys laughing in a blue Ford Escape. The car drove southbound on Berkley to eastbound Madison.

She is not LHAO, and said she intends to press charges if the suspects are caught.

DOWNERS GROVE

Stone Goose Migrates to Neighbor’s Driveway

Someone threw a stone goose onto the driveway of a home on the 5600 block of Main Street around 2:33 a.m. Aug. 11, police said. Officers found a similar goose in front of a home on the 5500 block of Main Street and left a message for the homeowner. When the owner called back he confirmed that it was indeed his goose, which was already broken at the time it went missing.

He “respectfully requested the goose be properly disposed of in the garbage.”

GENEVA

It’s just a bicycle theft, you say. But for a young man seeing his bike go by on the back of a red pickup, it's kind of a big deal.

Plus, it's something Geneva residents need to be aware of: Leaving a bicycle unattended on garbage pickup day can be tempting fate, or possibly the growing numbers of scrap-metal collectors

Someone took a 22-inch-frame mountain bike from the sidewalk in front of a house in the 300 block of Daniels Way sometime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 9, Geneva police reports said.

According to reports, a young man rode his bicycle to his friend’s house, then left on foot. The young man told his dad that he was walking along Larrabee Drive, about a block south of his residence, when he saw his bicycle in the back of a red pickup truck that had high sideboards on the back. He said the truck appeared to be picking up scrap from the side of the road, because it was garbage night.

In addition to any sentimental value, the bicycle has an estimated cash value of $100.

GLEN ELLYN

Two gnomes roamed from home in the 600 block of Duane Street sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Police said a resident reported that an unknown person or person took two garden gnomes from their front yard location.
