Minors Cited for Consumption of Alcohol

More than 20 are ticketed in one week.

During the second week of July more than 20 individuals were issued citations for consuming alcohol underage.

Despite the high volume of citations during and following the week of Fourth of July, Deputy Chief Robert Acton said the offenses were not directly related to the holiday.

"It's the summertime more than anything else," said Acton.

In one incident 15 minors were cited while at party in the 500 block of Stafford Lane on July 9.

According to the police report, officers responded to the residence at 1:52 a.m. because of a noise complaint. When officers arrived no parents were present. Officers then issued 15 citations.

On another occasion that same week, five males were cited at 2:10 a.m. on July 4 for consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 600 block of Duane Street. While on patrol, an officer heard a commotion at the aforementioned location and then investigated.

On the same day another minor was cited at Lake Ellyn at 10:15 p.m. after officers received a report of an intoxicated person at the Lake.

One day later, on July 5 at 6:36 p.m., three more juveniles were cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor while at Manor Park. Officers arrived at the park after they received complaints about a group of juveniles who appeared to be intoxicated.

Acton said juveniles ticketed for drinking underage could be fined up to $500 after appearing before a judge in court. Acton said juvenile safety is the first priority, and once minors are found to be under the influence parents are notified.

"The police are not going to allow someone who is intoxicated and might hurt themselves walk home, especially if they're minor," Acton said.
