Metra Train Accident Leaves 56-Year-Old Woman Dead

Glen Ellyn Police are investigating the incident that occurred Monday at 1:30 p.m.

A 56-year-old woman was near the Glen Ellyn Metra Station on Monday around 1:30 p.m.

Glen Ellyn Police are investigating the incident, which they are classifying as a "death investigation." Metra conductors at the scene said the woman jumped in front of the train at the last minute "with her hands in the air." Glen Ellyn Police are not releasing any further information about the woman at this time.

The outbound train was stopped on the tracks for nearly two hours and departed again for Elburn around 2:57 p.m. Earlier, pedestrians and cars were blocked from crossing the Crescent and Park Boulevards intersection. The scene is now clear and motorists are able to access this thoroughfare.

I don't know if this woman was committing suicide or not. If someone wants to commit suicide that's their choice, but don't do it by jumping in front of a train. Those trains are driven by people who feel terrible when that happens. Sure they know it's not their fault, but that's little solace.

At the train station in Geneva we see people all the time try and cross the tracks in front of the train because they're on the wrong side and don't want to miss getting the train. If they would wait the engineer will raise the gate for them to cross and get on. Depending on the conductors' mood they sometimes get left behind.
