Glen Ellyn Lifeguards, Firefighters Ready For Summer Emergencies

Members of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company and lifeguards conducted a special training session recently.

With Sunset Pool's capacity sometimes hitting 1,000, summer safety and emergency preparedness are crucial to not only the Glen Ellyn Park District lifeguards, but also to the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company.

The lifeguards and fire company members came together June 23 for a special training session at the pool, said Lt. Craig Eldridge, the fire company’s public information officer.

The training session was held in the morning and allowed the lifeguards to work on their lifesaving skills, while members of the fire company worked with the lifeguards on the transfer of patient care, as might occur in an emergency, Eldridge said in the news release.

The training “helps both teams understand the needs of the other and will help reduce the time it takes from the initial rescue or lifesaving event until the patient can be in the ambulance and on the way to the hospital,” he said in the release.
