Firefighters Respond to Weekend Fire

Units responded to the fire at 6:41 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at Greenwood Court.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded to a fire at a four-flat apartment on Saturday at 6:41 a.m. at Greenwood Court.

The first unit on the scene reported smoke showing from a first-floor unit, according to the report. The building was then evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Craig Eldridge, fire company spokesperson, said the fire was not due to Saturday's weather.

"It appears to have started in the kitchen and the investigation is looking at the appliances at this time."

Units from Bloomingdale, Wheaton, Lisle-Woodridge and York Center provided assistance during the fire. No residents or firefighters sustained any injuries.

As of Saturday morning, the building was uninhabitable due to water damage and was being ventilated to remove smoke. Eldridge said it was unclear when the residents could go back into the building and that it was up to the village building department to make that decision. The cause of the fire is unknown and pending an investigation.
