Consult with an Interior Designer at the 30th Annual Country Folk Art Festival
Members of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) are available to assist shoppers at The Country Folk Art Festival
You’re meandering down an aisle at The 30th Annual Country Folk Art Festival when you spy a vintage whirligig you decide you can’t live without. But is it compatible with those funky, spooky Halloween wood carvings you just bought?
Solve your decorative dilemma by talking informally with a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Two members of ASID’s Illinois chapter will visit this year’s Country Folk Art Festival in Robinson Hall at Kane County Fairgrounds. They will be available for free brief, informal consultations with shoppers.
The Country Folk Art Festival is a juried showcase of the ingenious work of some of America’s finest creative artisans – all acknowledged as experts in their fields. The show has long been considered one of the finest of its types in America. . It is produced by Robin Reed, Art of the Heartland, Inc. who acquired the show in 2011 from Lee and Judy Marks who founded it in 1982.

Karen C. Riordan, Allied Member ASID, will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22. Consultations with Lisa Moriarty, ASID, are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23.
Riordan is the founder and lead designer at KCR Interiors, LLC Residential Design, Glen Ellyn. In practice for 5 years, she earned a bachelors degree in merchandising and business from Dominican University and an associate degree in interior design from College of DuPage. She focuses on creating comfortable, sophisticated environments for everyday living

Lisa Moriarty, ASID, of Lisa Moriarty Art+ Interiors, also in Glen Ellyn, has more than 20 years experience in residential and commercial design, space planning, art consultation, color inspiration and custom furniture design. She studied interior design at Northern Illinois University and Harrington College of Design.
Shoppers are invited to bring floor plans, fabric swatches, paint chips or photographs to help during consultations.
Both Riordan and Moriarty are members of ASID, the leading professional organization for interior designers. Most of ASID’s 18,000 practicing designers (more than 1200 from Illinois alone) work in all areas of both residential and commercial design. Professional members must pass rigorous acceptance standards and have a documented combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience in the industry. They must also pass a 2-day accreditation exam administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification.

The 30th Annual Autumn Country Folk Art Festival
Date/time: 6-10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21; 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22; 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23
Tickets: $8 Friday; $6 Saturday; 4 Sunday. Children younger than 15 attend free. Ask about group rates.
Location: Kane County Fairgrounds, Robinson Hall, Randall Road between Routes 64 (North Avenue) and 38 (Roosevelt Road), one mile west of downtown St. Charles. Free parking.
Other details: home-made food and refreshments; all exhibits under roof; handicapped accessible; strollers allowed.

- 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday - Jim Van Hoven of Period Windsor Chairs and Accessories builds a chair during the show.
- 11a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday – Interior designer Karen Riordan, Allied Member ASID, provides consultations on using folk art in home décor (free with show admission)
- 1 p.m. - ``Building A Folk Art Collection’’- Interior designer Janet Kreig, IIDA, tells how her love for contemporary American folk art prompted her to create a private collection and provides tips on incorporating new work in an existing collection (free with show admission).
- 2:30 p.m. Saturday – John Bachman of Bachman Woodworking demonstrates the shaping of a Shaker box
- 11 .m. – 1 p.m. Sunday – Interior designer Lisa Moriarty, ASID, provides consultations on using folk art in home décor (free with show admission)
