District 87 Hosting Suicide Prevention Workshop Tuesday

A clinical psychologist with experience working with adolescents, Jason Washburn, will address what can be done to help protect teens against suicide risk.

The Glenbard Parent Series-GPS- Navigating Healthy Parenting and Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE) will present a suicide prevention workshop with Jason Washburn on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Glenbard South High School.

This presentation focuses on how parents and schools can help prevent suicide among teens. Washburn will educate parents about teen suicide, dispel common myths, review risk factors and discuss the parental and school roles in reducing risk factors.

Washburn will address what parents and schools can do to increase factors that protect teens against suicide-risk, including discussion of the components of a comprehensive school-based suicide prevention program.  He also will review the latest evidence-based treatment options for teens at risk for suicide.

The workshop will be presented from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 6 in the Little Theater at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road in Glen Ellyn.

Washburn, clinical psychologist and a board certified child and adolescent specialist, is director of the Center for Evidence-Based Practice at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and director of education and clinical training for the clinical psychology doctoral program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
