Glen Ellyn League of Women Voters Supports D87 Referendum

Glenbard School District 87 will have a referendum proposal on the March 18 ballot asking for funds for much needed infrastructure repairs and updates at all four high schools. The proposal is for the issuance of $35,000,000 in bonds. The District also plans to use an additional $65,000,000 from operating funds over the next ten years for maintenance and improvement of the properties. This proposal will not increase your property tax rate because it extends the length of bond payments.

The League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn supports this referendum and encourages voters to approve this request. After meeting with District 87 officials, evaluating information, and determining that District 87’s proposal meets LWVGE Criteria for Evaluating School Funding Referenda, the League Board unanimously agreed to support the D87 referendum.

Information on the referendum can be found at www.glenbard87.org under “Details about the March 18 Referendum” link. Additionally, the LWVGE is hosting an “Education Update” meeting with all three superintendents on February 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center. District 87’s superintendent, Dr. Larson, will be there to provide information on the referendum and answer questions. The public is invited.
