Obituary: Former Village President Constance 'Connie' Zimmermann 1931-2013

Constance Zimmermann served as Glen Ellyn village president from 1973 to 1977.

Constance “Connie” Cleveland  Zimmermann, 81, Glen Ellyn village president from 1973 to 1977, passed away on June 27 in Wisconsin. Officials from the village issued a news release July 24 honoring Zimmermann.

Zimmermann passed away at the home of her daughter Vivian Bennett in Slinger, Wisc., according to Zimmermann’s obituary. A memorial service in Glen Ellyn is planned on Aug. 1.

During her tenure as village president a number of projects were completed including renovation of historic Stacy’s Tavern Museum, the expansion of the Village Links Golf Course Clubhouse and improvement of the Village’s Prairie Path, according to the Village of Glen Ellyn.

“Her passing comes as a tremendous loss to the village she so passionately loved and served tirelessly in a manner epitomizing Glen Ellyn’s tradition of volunteerism,” the Village of Glen Ellyn said in a news release.

Along with serving the community, Zimmermann was a member of many boards and commissions including the North Eastern Illinois Planning Commission, the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, the DuPage County Board, the Illinois Municipal League and the Board of Central DuPage Hospital, the village said.

In addition to her civic duties, Zimmermann had a number of hobbies and enjoyed reading, playing tennis, skiing, swimming, boating, hiking, listening to music, golfing. She also enjoyed engaging in lively conversation.

"She was also very civic minded, always striving to make wherever she lived a better place by volunteering," the obituary said.

A memorial service will be held at Leonard Memorial Home of Glen Ellyn from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Aug. 1. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with a service from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
