Anne Bowers Wagner, 77, Feb. 12, 1936 – March 30, 2013

Anne Bowers Wagner of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Saturday, March 30. She was 77.

Mrs. Anne Bowers Wagner, 77, of Sarasota, FL. died peacefully on March 30, 2013 with family by her side. She and her husband, Robert Thomas Wagner (Bob), lived in Sarasota for the past 25 years. Prior to that, they lived in Glen Ellyn, IL. for over 25 years.

Anne was born in Kane, PA. to the late George and Kathryn Bowers.  The family moved to Spencerville, Ohio where George practiced law and Kathryn was an English teacher.  Anne graduated from Spencerville High where she was on the basketball team and in the marching band.

She went on to earn a B.S. degree in nursing at Ohio State University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. As an R.N., she first worked at the Ohio State University Hospital, and later moved to Granite City, IL. to work as an R.N. for her uncle, Willis W. Bowers, M.D.  While there, she met her future husband, Bob Wagner. They were married December 30, 1960 in Granite City. In 1963 they moved to Glen Ellyn, IL, a suburb of Chicago, to raise their family.  Anne was actively involved in their church and the community.

 In 1987, Anne and Bob moved to Sarasota where Anne volunteered with SPARCC (Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center), helping women in need of a safe haven.  She served on the Board and as President of SPARCC. She and her husband were also members of The Field Club where she was a competitive bridge player. They have resided at the Sarasota Bay Club in Sarasota since 2011.

Anne is survived by her husband, Bob; her son, Tom Wagner of Indian Rocks Beach, FL. (spouse Joanna) and grandchildren Jack, Ben and Sophie; and by her daughter, Nancy Wagner Davis of Glen Ellyn, IL. (spouse Adrian) and grandchildren Emily, Trevor and Chloe.
