In 2013, the ADA will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their “Give Kids A Smile” program, with thousands of dentists across the United States providing free dental services to underserved children. The program aims to eliminate cavities in American five-year-olds by the year 2020. Although it initially began as a one-day event on the first Friday of February, it has also been successfully done on days in other months.
In recent years, GKAS has teamed up with various partners and has been providing screenings and holding educational events. These events have been extremely successful in educating both parents and kids about dentistry and proper preventative care. In 2013, there will be as many as 11 education events held all across the country. Around 450,000 children benefit annually from the more than 1,500 events held nationwide, and it’s all because of the help of over 40,000 volunteers.
Dr. Raj Puri of Smiles Dental Center has proudly helped dozens of families with the program in past years and will be hosting his own GKAS event on February 9th, 2013 at their Bartlett office located at 849 S. Route 59 Bartlett, IL 60103. He will be providing free dental services for kids, while educating them and their parents on dentistry and preventive care. All participants will receive a free comprehensive exam, any needed x-rays, a simple cleaning, and fluoride if needed. “I think this program is a great idea, because it allows us to have a fun day with the kids while contributing to a great cause,” says Dr. Raj Puri.
Aside from repeated “Give Kids a Smile” participation, Dr. Puri also participates in career days at local schools and works as a volunteer at the Mission of Mercy and the Indian Dental Association of Illinois.
