The Best Team Nobody Knows

The Best Team Nobody Knows

They’re ignored by the Daily Herald, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.  They’re a footnote at Glenbard West, behind a phenomenal top 10 football team and a high-flying women’s volleyball team. But the best team you don’t know anything about is the real “futbol” club at Glenbard West, the varsity men’s soccer team.

On Tuesday night, the Hilltoppers traveled to Oak Park-River Forest and stunned the #6 ranked Huskies 2-0.  Senior Nate Hall scored two second half goals and sophomore keeper Robbie White snagged or blocked everything in sight. The
Hilltoppers defense controlled the back 18 all night.

The Hilltoppers are now 4-0, after winning the IMSA tournament last week. After 4 games, they have scored a total of 18 goals, while their opponents have failed to score in the first 4 contests.

In the IMSA tourney, Zach Venson and Nate Hall both scored twice and Eduardo Gonzalez found the back of the net in a 5-0 victory over Antioch. Then, the Hilltoppers punched Joliet Catholic in a 4-0 victory, with Nate Hall notching another 2 goals, with Ben Ruby and Jack Emanuel also getting on the board. In the 3rd game, IMSA was dominated 7-0, with Shawn Herrera recording a hat trick and both Zack Venzon and Jimmy Hernandez scoring twice.

Coach Maciej Kusmierz already has his team playing like a well-oiled machine. The Hilltoppers are going to make some noise this year, even if the local sports media aren’t there to witness it!

Their next game is Thursday, 9/6, at Lyons Township at 430 pm.  If you love good soccer, come on out and support this highly talented and entertaining team!

Maybe another impressive victory will wake up the sports editor at the Daily Herald.
